A great tomatter shot! I just did a bunch of these the other day for the next challenge. I love the water drops.....wish I had added that to mine! I love the detail and clarity and wish it continued to the two on the left as well. The lighting seems perfect until you get to the one in the upper left corner...then it seems a bit washed out. Great idea Gail.......keep them coming! #870910isabel C. Zepeda March 06, 2008
They look so good, grate shot of the tomatoes.Jeff Robinson March 06, 2008

A lovely image, Gail! I hope number 6 tasted good! #5604822Michael S. Lazarus March 07, 2008
Gail, I love the detail and color you captured in these cherry tomatoes. I agree with Aimee about the fine water droplets but also about the tomato in the upper-left-hand corner being a bit "washed-out". Further, the sink in the lower-right-hand corner is blown out completely. This would have been a great time to check your histogram (did you get the info I sent you on this a little while back?) The histogram would have showed clipping on the right side from this exposure. You could have then used the exposure bias adjustment set to -0.07 or more to get the distribution shifted more to the left side (darker pixels). This would have improved the highlights and added more color-depth as well I think. Perhaps try it again with a different backdrop. #5604875Derek D. Dafoe March 07, 2008

Congratulations on the finalist award for this image Gail! As I stated in my earlier comment the detail and color really stands out in this one. The composition I'm sure impressed the judges as well. As Mike M. above has stated, the judges are not looking for technical perfection as a priority for EP's and to a lesser degree finalists. 1st & 2nd place shots will likely need to be excellent all around. My first finalist here with yours is no exception. It was HEAVILY cropped and the horizon is crooked as seen in the upper-left corner (if I had PS and was not lazy I would have been smart to take care of that). So we probably won't see either of these as placers but they had enough qualities of excellence to make it this far. #5824132Joan E. Hoffman April 22, 2008
Congrats Gail.... I actually quite love this shot, and am pleased that it was chosen despite any minor imperfections. (Yours too Michael... that was awesome depite anything you saw cuz I didn't). I think I would make a good judge. I look for what captures my eye and pleases me. I never look for perfection. I love the philosphy of the Amish quilters ( and their quilting is awesome ) It is than only god is perfect, therefore they deliberately incorporate a "mistake" into each quilt. I am not a religious person, however as a human I certainly know none of us is perfect, and I am glad that we aren't ... what a boring world this would be, if we all were! #5827287Gail R. Mike..thanks for your kind words.I'm trying to take shots that my eyes see..i think I need my eyes checked!!Michael..don't be so hard on yourself..you can usually tell at a glance if you like a photo, then look closely to see if you love it.I'm not too technical with lighting, angles or PS something..so if I really like your photo..its great to me.Thnaks for your comment.
