"1912 LeRhone Rotary Engine" [Europe Photography]
Uploaded: August 24, 2012 19:14:35
Picture taken at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in Rhinebeck, New York.
LeRhone rotaries were produced in large scale in France and Sweden. The Union Switch and Signal Company in Swissvale, Pennsylvania also manufactured these engines. The LeRhone used less fuel and oil than the contemporary Gnome and was cheaper, lighter and could idle smoothly at low R.P.M.s. The nine cylinders of this engine rotate along with the propeller and is a sight to see when started.
