The Rock of Cashel [Europe Photography]
Uploaded: March 26, 2009 09:00:31 | Entered: July 26, 2015 05:27:53
"Cashel" is the Anglicized version of the Gaelic word "Caiseal," meaning "fort." The site in Ireland was chosen by the Welsh as a fort in the 4th century and was later, in the 12th century, given to the Church. The site contains ancient Celtic elements, such as this cross, and various religious architectural features were added over the centuries, as the early fort became a center for worship. This view is from the grounds of the "Rock" out over the countryside.

Wonderful light and colors. The earthy golden browns of the cross, the greens of the grass -- especially the lovely light green in the distance -- and the blue-gray tones of the sky work wonderfully well together. Nice composition, too. #7346329Mitch Spence March 30, 2009

Thanks, Deb, Julianna, Melissa, Dave, Kitty, Tammy, Phil, Allen, Susie, Shelly, Tammy, Joan, Carolyn, Susan, and Nikki! I appreciate it. We are, in the great scheme of things, still such a young country, it's hard to take in how many centuries of history are represented in a place such as this. #7352800Lisa J. Boulden March 30, 2009
