The oldest steel ship still in Iceland (1912), beached in the 1980's near Patreksfjörður; makes for a very unexpected sight as you round the bend.

LOOKS amazingly well taken care of for a boat that was beached about 30 year ago.Jack #1484809

The lines created by the land, water, hillside and the white streak in the clouds is pretty cool and then that perfectly placed, beautiful old ship...AWESOME! #10311041Michelle Alton September 06, 2012

Wonderful comp! I like that you left that opening on the left into the wild blue yonder where that ship used to work... :-) #10311169Dominick M. Dimacale September 06, 2012

Wonderful image. I love how the ship sits alone on a lonely stretch of beach with no other signs of humanity. #10312142Chris Budny September 07, 2012
Thanks so much, folks! Working up these photos each day only makes me want to go back all the more!Richard - so much of Iceland (outside of Reykjavik and the suburbs there) is vast, stunning emptiness. The tiny town (about 600 residents) of Patreksfjörður is barely discernible as a little splash of white specks, on the far shoreline almost at the very left edge of the image, at the base of the end of the mountain range. #10312889
