One of many highlights on the trip was an all-too-quick visit to the famous Jökulsárlón lagoon, where new icebergs are born, breaking off the
tongue of the glacier nearby to float serenely out to sea. Even in the poor weather that evening, the lagoon was magical;
still water, huge and small icebergs slowly drifting by or temporarily stuck on the lagoon's bottom, and a seal occasionally breaking the surface nearby.
Of all the stops we made, this is probably the one where I wanted an entire day to explore; the weather was even worse the next day, alas.
The profile of this one massive chunk of ice was so birdlike, it was almost like someone had sculpted it to be so.
