Caravan City [Contest Finalists July 2007]
Uploaded: July 27, 2007 10:57:04
Built in 1156, Jaisalmer thrived on the caravans that crossed India's Thar Desert in ancient times.

AWESOME!!!! Once again, you take us to places rarely seen. #700361Steve M. Harrington July 27, 2007
Thank you, Kimi. Jaisalmer is remote but well worth the effort of getting there.Dianna Hauf July 27, 2007
Oh...My...Word! First of all, love your deep blue sky, secondly, this desert scene is spectacular! The 'city'looks so 'intimadating' even from a distance! National Geographic would be so proud.... :) #4569677Steve M. Harrington July 27, 2007
Thanks so much, Dianna. The city is not at all intimidating. It is filled with incredible buildings that seem lace-like in their detailed carvings, and the people are friendly. One problem: this shot was taken in May when temperatures regularly hit 115 degrees. :)Colette M. Metcalf July 27, 2007
What a beautiful capture!! #4569800Dianna Hauf July 27, 2007
Ok, "intimidating", bad choice of wording. It is just sooooo huge, maybe 'fortress' or 'citadel'...since you teach 'communications', help me!!! I am at a loss for the right word description! I must be extra tired tonight as I 'babble'! No matter, it is a striking image! :):) #4569893Steve M. Harrington July 27, 2007
Thanks very much, Colette.Dianna, if you are planning on attacking it, "intimidating" would be an excellent word. If you are visiting, then "magical" is a good choice. :)

Ahhh, so simple and yet so profound....PERFECT! #4570051Mitch Spence July 29, 2007
The light here is striking, illuminating the structures so warmly. It's easy to see why this was chosen as a defensive position. I find myself wondering, though, how they got (and get)their water. #4574557Steve M. Harrington July 29, 2007
Hey, Mitch! The only source of water is wells that are at least 250ft. deep.David Pratt August 27, 2007
