A young man on the back of a lorry after a day of breaking rocks for gravel. Kolkata, India. This is a much revised version based on the thoughtful and valuable advice of Dianna and Natasha.

This looks amazing. what I really like about this image is all the different patterns and textures. The boys expression just perfects it. Fabulous! #654728Steve M. Harrington May 13, 2007
I want to thank you again for your candor, Natasha. All your points were valid and useful. I think the image has improved considerably after addressing the concerns you raised. His face is still over filtered, but I worked hard to at least balance the tones and brightness on his face. I just might enter this in the contest.Jenny Bosmans May 19, 2007
I like the framing on this wonderful B&W portrait, Steve. The face might be over filtered as you say, but I think that makes it jump out...might get the Judges' attention...who knows? :) #4300473Steve M. Harrington May 19, 2007
Thanks, Jenny. Yeah, who knows? :) It is difficult to adequately describe the heat and traffic chaos in which this image was taken in Calcutta traffic. What struck me was the confident dignity of this young man. No words or gestures were exchanged, yet I'll never forget the experience. I had to try to salvage this image as best I could!Ken Jarvis June 26, 2007
