Janelle, I've really been enjoying all your Hawaii pictures, including this one. Thank you for sharing them! I've been to Hawaii many times, but it's been more than 3 years since the last trip. In fact, the last time I was there was when we got married, on a bluff overlooking the ocean at sunset at a beach very near Makena. Thanks for helping to bring back memories for me! Thank you so much, Patricia! I've been enjoying your photos too, ever since I discovered this site five or so months ago - as well as envying you your travels! The diversity of your photographs is amazing - and I really like the creative elements you bring to so many of them.

This trip to Honolulu (2 nights, just to see it), Maui (11 nights) and the Big Island (13) was my husband's and my "dream Hawaiian vacation"; we traveled all around the two islands and really felt we had seen them so much better than the first time (which was two years ago). The Islands are really addictive, aren't they? (We're thinking - retirement?!)

Thanks again for your feedback - there are many more of these pictures to come! #10549

Wow! Almost a month on 3 islands -- you are so lucky, that really is a dream Hawaiian vacation. We've thought of living there too, but one thing would prevent us from doing so. Apparently, any pets you bring need to be in quarantine for 3 months, way too long for us to be separated from Bixby, our Golden Retriever, and Flyer, our Aussie. ... Speaking of diversity, the Big Island sure has it when it comes to climates and environments. Thanks for your kind comments, and bring on those photos -- I'm looking forward to seeing more of them! #10550

Patricia,

As a matter of fact, while we were there in June, there was a "major" news story regarding the state's lowering the present rabies quarantine of 30 days down to five days (for paperwork they say). But even that is catching a lot of flak from business leaders and others, and it's very possible that soon any pets who have been vaccinated and pass a health exam will be able to enter the state directly with their owners. Here's a link I just looked up to an article you might be interested in:

P.S. The Big Island is our favorite FOR its diversity, and the housing prices are also pretty darn good! I think our almost two-year-old yellow Lab, Maile, would have a pretty nice life over there (as would we!)

Janelle, That's very interesting information. I hadn't heard that -- and I'm in the newspaper business! :-) I'll check out that link. Thanks so much for letting me know. -- Patricia #10599
