04/18/07, Miyazu, Japan. Hurray! I've finally started attracting birds to a little platform I set up in a little Japanese maple in my garden, a few meters outside a glass door. That took a while and my challenge now is how spooked they get when I appear, even inside. I've thought of a way now, but haven't had time to try. I'll draw the curtains and just poke my camera lens out! Yesterday there was a lovely green Japanese Nightengale that flew away the instant I appeared. This is a sparrow. I may now have to delay my plans to get a cat...

Kinda surprised to see you browsing the animals section... Must be those fantastic new bird ops that got you started! Time's coming when you'll master everything and nothing will be left for us to try to excel in! #4186862Mike D. Perez April 19, 2007

Long lost Cherylann! How wonderful to hear from you! #4188335Colleen Farrell April 19, 2007
Terrific capture, Susan! Excellent clarity and composition--the soft blue and green in the background really set off the bird, and the red leaves of the maple are lovely! #4188498Joerg Schlagheck April 20, 2007
Great shot Susan! Yeah I'd wait with that cat. You might be able to get more beautiful images like this if you do. I like your strategy! #4191845Susan Jane Allen April 20, 2007
Thanks so much, Colleen and Joerg! And thanks for the advice about the cat. I almost always have a cat, wherever I go, but have been a bit hesitant--what with the tatami mats... Do they really significantly scare birds away from your garden? #4191961Jane M April 23, 2007

Thanks, Ken, I haven't even started except for a a couple people I checked up on! Getting ready for a challenging job interview where I have to give a demonstration in Osaka and kind of freaking out a bit! #4328119Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
