Spicin' up Winter! [Photography Contest Photoshop & Digital Darkroom]

This is a photo taken that had a dull, grey sky, yet I liked the starkness of the tree with the birds, and knew it needed something else. I added a gradient and then layered a texture over this and blended them...and really liked the end result. Any thoughts??

Works for me, great use of effects, Terri. #613751Terri Beloit March 01, 2007
Thank you, Brinn, for you thoughts! I appreciate it! :) #4011764Robert S. Grauer March 01, 2007
I like the concept but a bit overdone. I would have kept the color gradient from the blue on the bottom and ended with pink or orange on top. The yellow and green on top are overkill. #4011799Terri Beloit March 01, 2007
Robert, thanks for the input and suggestions. #4011839Kristine Slipson March 01, 2007
I think the idea is nice, but I would have gone for a more 'natural' look and made the sky look sunset-like. I agree with Robert. #4012299Kay E. Mahoney March 01, 2007
Nice work, Terri. Love the colors. #4012618Remi Trepanier March 01, 2007
Amazing Colors Terri! #4012674Susana Ms Heide March 04, 2007
WOW!!! This image just pops off the page! For me the effects work really well!!! If you'd tried to simulate a sunset with your effects the image would not have stood out as much to me! Very contemporary feel to this. I'm a fan of color and I wouldn't change a thing! It's something I'd enlarge and hang on my wall!! #4022049Terri Beloit March 04, 2007
Thank you, Susana, for your comments. You are correct in assuming that I wasn't trying to create a sunset...I wanted something bight and fun...I appreciate your compliment! #4022051Deborah Lewinson April 24, 2007

You are so sweet, Christy! THANK you!! #4211312Colleen Farrell May 05, 2007
Just going through some finalists that I hadn't seen before ... I love this image, Terri! The original would be great in itself, but the effects you've added make it a WOW! photo. Beautifully done--congratulations on your finalist! #4251348Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
