Soft-boxed Bonsai Blooms [Contest Finalists January 2007]
Uploaded: January 29, 2007 07:07:34
01/28/07, Miyazu, Japan. Nothing's cheap in Japan, but bonsai plants are abundant and relatively reasonable. This is from my first session with my BIG makeshift softbox. I'll insert a photo of it in the discussion thread. Made it for half what it would have cost me to buy and have it shipped. But still don't quite know what I'm doing. Bought two construction work lamps, one 500W and one 300W, but the 300W didn't work and exchanged for a 200W as that's all they had. For my first trial run only had the 300W, so put three small spotlights on the right and the 500 on the left. Would really appreciate some advice on how to improve construction and lighting.

Bought two construction work lamps, one 500W and one 300W, but when I tried to turn the 300W on, it didn't work and will have to return it. For my first trial run, put three small spotlights on the right and the 500 on the left. Advice on what I've done wrong with the construction and lighting solicited! #596388Hurk (Steve) Hurkett January 29, 2007

Excellent job Susan! What lens you used? #3886630Susan Jane Allen January 29, 2007
Thanks so much, Billy and Fritz--you made my day! The lens I used was the Sigma 18-200. It's really not that great for macro. I'm saving for the Canon 100-400 L with image stablizer to use both for macro and birds in flight. Wish me luck! #3886647Janine Russell January 29, 2007
