Afternoon Magic [Photography Contest Nature & Landscape Photos]
Uploaded: December 07, 2006 07:38:58
Living in rural Pennsylvania, the lack of color in the world this time of year drives me crazy. But when I saw this field of dried wildflowers, I was struck by how beautiful brown can be in the "magic hour." Hiked out into the field until the reeds and flowers were at eye level. Scrunched down a bit to frame the field without the distracting tree line and sky at the horizon. Shot into the sun. Aperture priority; daylight setting to capture warmest tones and depth of color.

This is indeed magical...I love the dof here and your choice of composing it the way you did. During golden hours, I have always said everything has a beauty all it's own and the capability to shine, and I can find it just about anywhere(now whether or not anyone else is in agreeance with what I come up with is a whole 'nother story)... shooting is what brings that pleasure and therapy, and when a beautiful capture arrives from that, it's icing on the cake... :) #571177Pam Ullman December 12, 2006

Very evocative, Pam. I agree, even the most mundane subjects transform in the "magic hour". I'm waiting for a time when an early morning frost settles on some teasels...unfortunately, I don't have a field full of them nearby as in your shot!!Cheers,
