I'm generally only awake for sunsets, but had to get up early last Friday. Caught this gorgeous sunrise from my backyard. Canon PowerShot G3.

Aren't you glad you had to get up early? This is gorgeous, Patricia! Wonderful composition, lighting, colors and silhouettes!Cathy :) #19611

Thank you so much, Cathy! Yes, I'd say that getting up that early was definitely worth it. :-) #44431Damian P. Gadal May 26, 2019
Very nice Patricia! I've started to find that sunrises are much more dramatic then sunsets and a nice way to start the day off... #44440Patricia Marroquin May 26, 2019
Thanks, Damian. Yes, I was amazed that sunrises could be this beautiful. When you don't go to bed until 2 or 3 a.m., you're seldom awake to see sunrises. LOL. By the way, the building that's silhouetted is an elementary school with a curved roofline. The school is behind our home. #44453Joy Brown May 26, 2019
What an awesome shot - love it, Patricia! #44454Cathy M. Gromball May 26, 2019
I thought that was a hill, Patricia! It's so perfect for the shot!Cathy :) #44455
Sobia Chishti May 26, 2019
Love the shot. When I first look at this image I just wanted to see a little bit more of that hill which proved to be the roof of building. Its beautiful anyway. #44479Patricia Marroquin May 26, 2019
Thank you so much Joy, Cathy and Sobia. My husband had asked me if I altered the color on this. I did not. It's all Mother Nature's beauty. :-)It hadn't even occurred to me that the school's roof could be mistaken for a hill. Guess that's because I know there are no hills and mountains in the Dallas area. LOL. That's one thing I really miss about California -- mountains and hilly terrain, as well as the ocean.
Sobia, the reason I didn't include more of the building in the shot was because there were other distracting elements, likes poles and a trash dumpster, in that area.
Again, thank you all. :-) #44510

WOW -- I hope you didn't burn the camera :0) Amazing color. #44516Carol Engstrom May 26, 2019
Wow, Patricia! That is an amazing shot! #44580Patricia Marroquin May 26, 2019
Thanks, Murry, Douglas and Carol. I've found that Texas has sunrises and sunsets that rival Hawaii's. There's just not an ocean as a backdrop. More like water towers and elementary schools instead. LOL. #44607Patrick Campbell May 26, 2019
Wow, that's color! We rarely get such a display here in Shasta County to complement the geography. #44851Patricia Marroquin May 26, 2019
Thanks, Patrick. I don't know what it is about North Texas that it gets such vivid sunrises and sunsets. #45215Carolyn M. Fletcher May 26, 2019
Sunrises and sunsets in the finals!! What's this world coming to?? #54495Kathleen Clemons May 26, 2019

Congratulations again, Patricia! #54911Patricia Marroquin May 26, 2019
Thank you all so very much. I laugh when I think that a school building helped make this sunrise shot.Damian and Kathleen: It was worth getting up early. I've gotta do that more often. :-)
Thanks for the laugh, Carolyn. Or should I say "Ms. Sunset." #55124

Thanks Cees, Mette and Carol. I appreciate you taking the time to sends your congrats. :-) #55431Piper Lehman May 26, 2019
Patricia, I remember this morning. I took some shots of it a little later - when it was more pink/blue, but they were pretty bland. I had a lovely utility pole and wire in my way, and I was pointing toward your house, of course! Great minds think alike, I guess. :) Very nice shot. #55914Patricia Marroquin May 26, 2019
Thanks, Piper. I guess I just assumed every morning here there is a sunrise like this, since I'm rarely ever up to see any. :-) #56145Sobia Chishti May 26, 2019
Best luck and congratulations!! #56161Patricia Marroquin May 26, 2019
Thank you, Sobia. :-) #56191Conrad L. Conero May 26, 2019
Have never gotten up early enough to see one of these myself, Pat, but enjoyed looking at yours. Was looking through an old issue of American Photo last night (3/4-95) and saw a familiar name on the editorial page. After checking here I saw it really was yours. Small world! Ever collect that Newton? :)Patricia Marroquin May 26, 2019
Hi Conrad. I apologize for the delay in responding to you. I no longer get e-mail notifications about comments on my photos. Jim Miotke is still trying to figure out what's wrong.Anyway, thanks for the compliment on this photo. I've gotta tell you, though, that years ago someone told me that there was a Patricia Marroquin in the photography world who worked at American Photo. That Patricia Marroquin is not me!
My name isn't a common one, so it's surprising that there's another woman out there with my name who loves photography! :-)
Thanks again for your kind comment.
Cheers, the OTHER Patricia Marroquin ;-) #85367

Oh, I wanted to add one more thing, Conrad. If you ever see my name in reference to the San Jose Mercury News, the Los Angeles Times or The Dallas Morning News, then that would be me! LOL! #85368Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
