08/04/08, Miyazu, Japan. Taken in my yard the first chance I could get upon arriving in my new home. I do so wish there were a catagory for leaves and plants. If they're not macro, I never know where to enter them.

Gorgeous image, Susan!!! I put leaves and plants in the N&L category if they aren't a macro. I hope you're enjoying your new home! #501274Terry L. Ellis August 11, 2006
Fascinating and very beautiful, Susan! #3152388Sharon C. Hinze August 11, 2006
On a fast tour of new uploads...this caught by attention. It is beautiful! Happy new home as well! S #3152489Susan Jane Allen August 12, 2006
Thanks Sharon, Rajesh, Terry and Sharon H! The N&L category seemed a logical choice to me too, but since I see mostly landscapes there, I wondered about it. Next time I'll try that. I really like plants and love dead leaves, so have been feeling a bit miffed about this! Kind of overwhelmed at the competition in the landscape category, though--wonderful to browse through, as there are so many spectacular images from the real pros! #3157054Ken Smith September 26, 2006
Beautiful job, Susan. I like the larger landscape feel to this!! #3365011Susan Jane Allen September 26, 2006

While the category choices will never please anyone, this would stand out in several of them, today! Congratulations on the Finalist, for this really lovely image! #3376093Susan Jane Allen September 27, 2006
Thanks so much, Sharon and Christopher, for your really encouragine comments! #3376216Chris Budny September 27, 2006
(oops... just realized I meant to say the choices of categories won't please everyone! [Not anyone!]) ;) #3376222She-She Killough September 28, 2006
I agree sometimes I am not sure where to place some images...baffling sometimes! But this is GORGEOUS Susan! Not sure if you used any FX but I LOVE this! It is a winner in my book!! Congrats!! #3378540Susan Jane Allen September 28, 2006
This is one of those lovely miniature Japanese maples that I'm fortunate to have in my little garden. I've been trying to capture these leaves to my satisfaction for three months. I have a couple I like, like this one, but the virtues of this one are more due to Photoshop. Think I used my 70-300 with macro switch which accounts for the blurred background. The leaves are quite small. And aside from normal adjustments, think I cropped, applied a slight accented edges and then used the colour burn tool. I think I'm going to change my tactics and use another lens to do close up rather than macro. #3379175Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
