River Waves With Late Light
Uploaded: July 19, 2006
With 11 mins to sunset(behind the camera),the very calm river is coloured orange, except when a larger river ferry goes past. The waves set up by the ferry bring in some blue small waves to the orange river.A very ephemeral effect, but well worth waiting for.Swan River,Perth,Western Australia. 18July,2006.5.21PM

I want to say WOW but it's not a WOW it's an AAAAHhhhhh!!!! I like the diagonal lines in the foreground compared to the horizontal in the background! But ahhhh those colours. How beautifully they have blended! #487864Joe Terni July 31, 2006
Firstly sorry Kate that I missed thanking you on a few shots you commented on,this included. When the very late light is like this on a nearly flat river,I wait for a bigger river ferry to pass by,knowing it will throw up some smaller waves. The waves albeit small add some blue and form to the reddish river. Its very fascinating but very short lived. Some evenings a ferry dose not pass, and I think I should hire a ferry just to pass by at the right time! Thanks Kate. #3105347Kate Jackson July 31, 2006
I just love the simplicity of this. Knowing you were standing there just waiting for the right moment makes it even more impressive. I would love to put a link to this on one of Mary's blogs which is about simplicity and complexity if that's alright by you? #3105568Jenny Bosmans July 31, 2006
Kate said it beautifully, and I agree 100% with her, Joe! Absolutely gorgeous and excellent capture! :) #3105908Mary N C. Taitt August 02, 2006
