SO ADORABLE Vickie, CONGRATULATIONS!!! <>< #9491663Vickie L. Holt June 28, 2011
Thanks everyone! As always, most of my cat/dog photos are of the adoptable animals at Angels of Assisi Animal Shelter in Roanoke, Virginia. Turbo here is one of the many kittens currently at the shelter. It is kitten season, after all. :-) I volunteer every week at the shelter to photograph their adoptable animals for the website. I urge everyone to volunteer at their local shelters as a photographer. Since I began taking photos like these, the adoption rates have increased over 35%! Other photographers I have trained for shelter photography have also reported increased adoption rates in their shelters. Better shelter photography saves lives! If you have a few hours to spare per week, and you'd like to help your local animals, please consider volunteering. I'll be happy to share my secrets. Photos likes this one of Turbo take less than 5 minutes to achieve IN the shelter facility. It doesn't take much time, yet makes SUCH a difference. Thanks again! #9491702Phyllis H. Congratulations on your POTD and on the wonderful work you do. Turbo 1 is a beautiful kitty and deserves a good home. I myself adopted a kitten a year ago and the happiness he has brought is simply invaluable. Your idea is certainly inspiring and I agree with the fact that good photographs of those little animals make a big difference, especially when the person behind the camera has a wonderful heart, like yours.Phyllis A. Vickie, this is so adorable, so well composed. The simplicity of the white background beautifully draped to create perfect composition makes this image outstanding.I applaud your volunteer work in the animal shelter and using your talent in photography to enable these wonderful animals to be adopted. The world needs more people like you.
Congratulations on your adorable POTD, Vickie!!! #9492164

Hi Susan - and thanks! I use a white fleece for the backdrop specifically because it allows adoption search engine viewers to see a clear, well defined and easily interpreted visual of the animal. The fur babies seem to get lost when the backgrounds are cluttered or elaborate. And white is the best color to use because other shades may bleed or clash with the fur. This way, the focus is on the animal, where it should be, instead of the other materials in the photo. #9492200JO ANN CLEVELAND June 28, 2011
