Congratulations on your excellent POTD Bob! #9186538Kathryn Wesserling January 23, 2011 0
A "sharp" photo in more ways than one! Are the pinkish tones enhanced by the angle of the sun, or are the various colors obvious at all times? This one is pretty fascinating; congratulations on a wonderful catch, and on the POTD. #9186545Patti Coblentz January 23, 2011 0

Thanks everyone for your nice comments! This POTD was a welcomed surprise when I turned on my computer this morning!
The fancifully adorned Tricolored Heron take its place among the ubiquitous wading birds that come to feast in the rich waters of South Florida's wetlands. E. tricolor can be commonly seen feeding along the canals within Big Cypress Preserve and Everglades National Park during the winter months. Drying swamp waters recede into the canals and concentrate the fish, frogs and other aquatic life to create a smorgasbord for wading birds and other predatory species...as well as a plethora of unique opportunities for the wildlife photographer.
