Thank you everyone for your great comments. I liked the color against the blue and the nice details but wasn't sure whether the landscape background was too much and would be distracting. I have some shots with just the pussy willows against the blue sky also.

Ann; on this particular shot I didn't use any lenses or filters. I intentionally shot it at f8.0 to keep the background as clear as possible.

For those who truly enjoy the details I'm attaching a very close crop from the full size photo of the pussy willow macro I entered just before this one. One interesting surprise is that the hairs are actually translucent like polar bear fur! #92302

I'm enjoying this beautiful macro, GAry! Most times, photographers bring in macro subjects and pair them with irrelevant backgrounds. I just love the pertinent background here...it's in it's environment and that makes it a stronger image to my mind. Nice work! #103417

Thank you very kindly, Dolores! I'm very happy to hear your comment and that you appreciated the intent of this macro. I've posted it at other places (PhotoSig for one) and the most common comment I get is: "Very nice, but the background is distracting". I especially appreciate it, because I went through contortions to get positioned at just the right angle to purposely include the mountains in this. On top of that the wind was occasionally gusting! I almost gave up a couple times :-) #103973

Great work Gary- the DOF, and what a backdrop. I don't find the background at all distracting. It gives focus and perspective --we "don't see the forest for the trees.."It is a wonderful nature shot and an environmental commentary. #105590
