Lens for Nikon N70 SLR? I have a 28-80mm lens for my Nikon N70. I am thining of buying a new lens. The idea is to buy a versatile lens that can be used to shoot family pictures and also travel pictures. I am confused between the Nikkor 28-200mm IF AF Zoom Nikkor AND the 70-300mm f/4-5.6D ED AF ED micro zoom AND the 70-300mm f/4-5.6G AF Zoom-Nikkor. Will the 70-300mm suffice most of my needs or will I need to change to my 28-80mm lens often?

For a long time I owned a 28-135 IS USM f/3.5-5.6 and a 70-300 IS USM f/4-5.6. I took this set of lenses to Europe, backpacking of all things, (the bag weighed about 7kg, including flashes, film and filters!) and I regretted it. I took 600+ photos over 3 weeks and I used the 70-300 once - for an amusing photo of a bird sitting on top of the statue "David" in Florence. I could have left the 70-300, my flashes, and all my filters except the circular polariser at home. As for portraiture (family), a range of 100 to 135 is usually considered "normal" as it does not distort perspective. A shorter lens will make the people at the back seem shorter than they are, and a longer lens will compress the photo (That's not necessarily a bad thing). In my opinion, there are very different reasons to have each lens, but if you want ultimate versatility, there are 35-350 lenses out there that will do everything reasonably well. If you do go ahead with the 70-300, you will find it is not really appropriate for many landscapes.
