Rain in Kauai

I will be visiting Kauai in July and have heard that it rains quite often. We will be doing a few long hikes. Does anyone have any suggestions on protecting the camera equipment in this environment?

Thanks,
Greg

A few economic things I would do. First, an umbrella that would cover you and your bag or pack. Second, pack light, there will be less to juggle in your wet environment. Third, two trash bags. On to drape over your bag or pack unless you have like a Lowepro Computrekker AW or some such pack that has a pull over water resistant cover, then just the one bag for placing you bag on the ground if need be. A few Walmart plastic bags come in handy. With some tape, this can be affixed to the end of the lens through a small hole torn in the bottom of the bag, and pulling the bag back over the lens and the camera body. Micro absorbent towels. Use often on the lens glass or on anything else that gets wet. And do not neglect your clothing. A good rain jacket with pockets could free up your shoulders/back so that you have less to keep track of, ie. don't need that damn bag. Good water resistant boots and socks will make you much more comfortable on those treks. Be patient and have lots of fun.
