Fluorescent lights I was wondering...using continuous fluorescent lighting and the camera settings set to 'white light fluorescent light' in the manual mode, all my pictures still turn out with a yellow cast. Is there anyone out there who can give me advice as to what I'm doing wrong and how to fix this problem since I don't see any reason why I should have to sit for hours on the computer post-processing every picture of the shoot! I just recently bought my lighting and am wondering whether I should have bought a few strobes instead of the 4 continuous lights. I still have time for an exchange....lol Thank you for your help and guidance.

Assuming you're using the Pentax *ist DS indicated in your gallery, use the Manual white balance setting (pp. 113-114 of the manual).

Thanks Jon, and yes, your assumption was correct. I already use the manual white balance settings as indicated in the manual yet everything still has a yellow cast!?

Benita, You will find there are various fluorescent lights on the market. Any fluorescent can be tricky to work with unless you understand some basic concepts. 1) Fluorescents "flicker" at the line rate. In the U.S, this is 60 times per second. So if you shoot at 1/60 or slower, you're asking for trouble. 2) As these bulbs age, their color changes. Do as Jon said, manually WB with a piece of white paper, you should be ok.

Hi Bentina, Fluorescent lights are a problem. They do not have a continuous spectrum and as noted it changes over time. You shutter speed needs to be longer than 1/60th of a second preferably a multiple of 1/60th like 1/30th or 1/15th. Otherwise you get a part of the cycle and a part of the color output. You might want to look at my recent blogs; I wrote about fluorescent lights a couple of weeks ago: http://www.betterphoto.com/blogs/insights/archives/weblogs_by_john_siskin/index.html Thanks, John Siskin
