Using Spot metering on Nikon D50 I have a Nikon D50 and have been trying to figure out all the features on it. I have a book about the camera and it talks about changing the metering modes. I would like to take a picture using spot-metering, but I don't know how to change that setting. the book said to press a metering button on the camera and spin the dial, but I can't find that button... I thought I knew all the buttons on the body of the camera. Anyone own this camera and know how to change this setting?? Thanks!

The D50 buries the metering mode selection in Custom Settings menus. Near as I can tell from the manual... You first have to set the camera for detailed menu options, otherwise the meter setting (and many other options) will not be displayed. Press the MENU button, then select the "wrench" icon (Setup) down the left column, select "CSM/SetUp Menu", and set "Detailed" rather than "Simple". To set the metering mode, press the MENU button. Select the pencil icon (Custom Settings) from the left column, scroll down to option #13 Metering. There you can select Matrix, Centerweighted, or Spot. Not this selection will only be active in P, A, S, M modes. The camera defaults to its own metering choices in the Vari-Program (icon) exposure modes.
