Before using it on a modern electronic camera, test the trigger voltage generated at the contacts in its foot. If it is greater than ~8v, then it is not safe to use without a protective adapter such as the Wein Safe Sync. The 400ZW is likely a non-dedicated auto-thyrister type of flash. It has its own built-in sensor to control the flash output, but relies on the user to coordinate the ISO and lens aperture settings between the flash and the camera.
