Sigma 24-135 2.8 lens

Hi there....my husband got me this lens for Christmas but I've been experiencing a few issues with this it. I am using it on my Pentax *ist DS mainly and for some reason it is really slow in AF so that I have to switch to MF about 80% of the time fue to frustration...lol Then, when it is working in AF mode...sometimes it won't even let me shoot the pciture even though it says it's in focus (this I've never experienced at all with any of my other lenses). Also some of the pcitures seem to be quite blurry/vignetted...
I was wondering if there is anyone out here who has this lens and is experiencing similar issues or if I just happen to have a bad one?!? Or maybe is there something I'm doing wrong?

Thank you for your help!

Sigma backward engineers the lens/camera communication. On lenses for Canon EOS made before 2002 they didn't get it quite right and many of the lenses won't work on newer models. There may be a similar problem with the 24-135 f/2.8-4.5 made prior to the introduction of the Pentax *istDS. Check with Sigma Customer Service. They may be able to update the lens with a new ROM chip or PC board to restore compatibility.
