Adapting lens In an effort to salvage some of my nice old Canon FL lens I acquired in Vietnam, I bought a Bower Maxxum Body to Canon FD lens adapter. Everything I have read says the FL and FD lens are physically identical except for the shape of the stop down lever. HOWEVER!!... I cannot get any of the FL lens to attach. They appear to be too deep. The old vivitar preset lens I have for the Canon fits fine. Any of you folks have any experience in this area. I also have an additional problem with attaching the preset lenses. The camera (Minolta D7) says there is no lens attached. HELP!!!???

Drawing a blank on your problem attaching FL lens to FD adapter. Should work, only difference is FL has breech lock ring rather than twist-on. Re - D7 with preset lens: The Maxxum wants to be able to communicate electronically with the lens. With non-AF lenses lenses attached (directly or with adapter), the camera thinks there is no lens attached and the default is to lock the shutter. The shutter can be enabled with these lenses by turning off the Shutter Lock in the custom menu (pp. 92-93, 97 of the manual).

Thanks Jon, for the info on the shutter lock. I agree that the FL lens should work but I'll be darned if I can get them to settle in and attach. Apparently the early model FD lens used the same mount as the FL lens then they switched to twist on. Adapter accepts my two preset breech lock lenses without stop down levers. As I said, thanks for your help and speed. Hope someone has the solution!

I got my FL lenses in 'Nam, too. FL lenses work the same as FD or even bayonet FD lenses; they all fit the camera mount. For what you paid for the adapter (if over $100) you could get a nice Ftb, or if you don't want to deal with the old 3.5v battery problem, an AV-1. With FL lenses, you set the aperture first and line up the shutter speed to the indicator for correct exposure in your FTb's meter. With the AV-1 you set the aperture and let the camera automatically set a shutter speed. BTW, my AV-1 was $40 on fleabay.
