Lighting with a black backdrop

I am having problem with my settings. My canon eos 20d setting are at iso 100 and 125/22. My 750 light head is at 1/8 power. I am photographing a black back drop with one light head with a small soft box. My problem is that I have lines going through my pictures. I know there is too much light coming in. I just dont know if I should change my setting on the camera or the lighting.
If anyone can help fast I would greatly appreciate it.

  Kristy,

I am new here and I think I have ran into the same problem that you have.

Shafts of light running threw the backdrop making it look like lines threw the background of your photo.

If that is it there are 3 suggestions I have found to fix it.

1. Use a smaller light for the backdrop.

2. Take a peice of white thin cloth that can be folded to put over top the softbox. Becareful not to smuther the light per fire risk. If its still to bright fold the cloth again to make it thicker.

3.Put a Polarizer or a light reduction filter on your lens.

4. Move the light further back away from the backdrop.

Best of luck and let me know how it works out.
