Trouble with Focus!! I own a Canon EOS Digital Rebal XT, and since sunday night, when I look through the view finder, it has been darker than normal, and even when I try to focus on something in the light, it can't focus unless it is on MF, and I can hardly see what I am trying to take a picture of. Is this something I can fix on my own, or should I take it in to get serviced? I have cleaned everything I know how to clean and it still hasn't changed. What do I do??!?!?!?! I need it fixed and FAST!! Somebody help me!!!

Fawn, It sounds like the diaphragm on the lens is not staying open during focus like it should. What lens do you have on the camera? Do you have another lens that you can try to see if the problem continues? Then you can narrow down if its a problem with the camera or the lens. If you don't have another lens, at least try removing the lens and cleaning the contacts on the lens mount. Chris A. Vedros

Power down the camera and remove the batter for about 30 seconds and see if it clears up. Another thought is that the DOF preview button is stuck. If it were not for the part about the viewfinder being dark I would think the diopter on the viewfinder is out of adjustment for your eye.

The diopter adjustment would not affect the camera being able to autofocus, it would just affect how the image in the viewfinder looked to her. If the pictures came out fine, but looked blurry in the viewfinder, then it would be the diopter. Chris
