Nikon D70 AF failure
Nikon has told me to send the camera(2 months out of warranty) for an estimate. The AF never worked reliably with my most of me predigital AF lenses but now just stutters a little and gives up no matter what lens I choose, including the 18-70. All the lenses and batteries work fine in a duplicate D70. Nikon was unwilling to disclose what the problem might be or what it might cost to fix what's broken. As it is, the camera works fine in manual. If anyone has had a repair for this, I'd appreciate hearing about it. Thanks.

They are not "unwilling to disclose what the problem might be," it is simply impossible to know until you send them the camera so they can examine it.

Randall, I just spoke to someone at Nikon this last week, there is a Maintance Advisory out on the D70,N55,D2H .(and the EL-3 battery) It conserens some of the power problems that may effect the camera in many ways. There is a FREE maintance call here is a link: http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?cat=1 you send it in to either the East or West coast office and the send it back with in 5 working days. so they say. I hope this helps, Debby Tabb

thank you for your responses. Nikon's people have been very patient and helpful. someone finally let me know that my camera doesn't seem to be afflicted with the defect. Then, the AF ring on my 80-200 BROKE so they told me how to send that in as well as the cost if it isn't covered by the warranty for some reason. I have had all kinds of questions about the new D80 I bought and can't say enough nice things about the Nikon techs. anyway, thanks for your responses.
