Auto Focus on Nikon F55

My Auto Focus on the Nikon F55 does not work. The manual focus works fine but on AF the camera focuses in and out but will not snap the picture when the button is pressed. Any Ideas!!!

What lens? The F55 is not compatible with lenses that have internal AF motors: AF-S (Silent Wave) and AF-I.
Filter on the lens? There are two types of polarizing filter. The older designs are "linear polarizing" and will confound AF sensors. AF SLRs require a "circular" polarizer.
Also check that there isn't dust or lint covering the AF sensors. They are located in the bottom of the camera's mirror box.

Dan, I have the same problem. I bought an F55 as a back up 18 months ago. Didn't open the box for a while. When I did I found it would not autofocus. Have read somewhere (Nikon Singapore site I think) that it is a fault on some units. Nikon will correct this free or if you have already had it done and paid for it, they will re-imburse you. I live in the middle east and my local Nikon agent is a muppet so I think I will have to pay myself.
If you bought recently go back to the store and sandbag them.
Regards
Dave
