memory cards weren't meant for that.
You need a cd, floppy, or those new portable 125mb things that fit directly into the usb port.

Craig: I don't know why you would want to save images to a memory card.

But if you want to do so, you can, with an accessory memory card reader.

See for example Sandisk ImageMate, Memory Stick/Memory Stick Pro, USB 2.0 Interface, Card Reader/Writer $20. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=278581&is=REG

Here's a better solution for saving images to a portable product: SanDisk Cruzer. Available in other brands too and in higher capacities.

Sandisk 128MB Cruzer USB Mini Portable Data Storage Device ... is the fastest and easiest way to move your data. Cruzer Mini is Hi-speed USB 2.0 certified for fast data transfer (also compatible with USB 1.1). Store all your data, pictures, music and more on this pocket-sized device and then easily transfer files between your laptop and desktop.

this is Craig again.I want to send images to the card to take away and print somewhere else.
The memory stick can recieve images because I have seen it done on a similar Sony camera on my computer by my sister. Also, on the installed software that came with the camera there is the option 'output to memory card'.
This is why I am so frustrated with it.

Craig: It would work fine if you had a card reader accessory.

But it should work if you have the camera hooked up to your computer.

The computer will recognize it as another drive.

You should be able to Save As and then specify the drive. It would then write the data to the card.

Wouldn't you need a card writer so that the file is transfered in a way to get it off the card? I saw a card reader/writer by Sandisk in the store last night.
Knowing that softwares have changed since I bought my camera, but I accidentally saved a picture to the removable disk location ( which is what the cf card in the card reader was) and that was it for that picture. Couldn't view or get it off to print.

  Gregory:

You can read a card and write to the card, whether you use the camera (connected to the computer) or the card reader/writer accessory.

The key is to know which drive the camera or the card reader is. It may be E or F, for example. Depends on your computer.

You plug the card into the camera or the card reader when either is connected to the camera.

You then open your image editing software.

Then FILE ... OPEN ... and designate the drive that is the camera or the card reader. (E? F? ... whatever it is.)

The image should be there so you can open it and save it to your computer's hard drive.

You can also write images to the card. SAVE AS ... then designate the drive that is the card reader or the camera. (E? F? ... whatever it is.)

It's difficult to explain computer processes in writing like this but anyone who is familiar with computers should be able to understand my suggestion.

  You're explaining the obvious.
I know about E and F drives, wouldn't be able to have this website if I didn't. But I was asking if a regular card reader would allow you to transfer a picture from the computer to the cf card, and still have it be readable.

Gregory: My detailed description of the process was really for others (including Craig) who are reading this topic.

But yes, a card "reader" can also be used to write data to a memory card.

They cost about $20 and are a convenient alternative to constantly attaching/detaching a camera from a computer.

But you can do exactly the same things when attaching the camera, as you can with a card reader accessory.

The SanDisk brand is great; they make one for each type of memory card, and some that accept 6 or more types of cards. (The USB 2 models are particularly fast with computers that support USB 2; they also work fine with computers with the older USB 1 port.)

I have never had a problem reading a card with my SanDisk model, or any problem writing to a card.

Occasionally, a memory card can become corrupt and lose data. That can usually be solved with the FORMAT command in-camera.

A memory card should **never** be formatted with a computer's "format" option. Only in the camera.

Anyone reading this should experiment with their own camera or card reader. Format the card (in-camera) and then try writing images to it, from your image editing software.

Then, try downloading the same images to your computer.

The process should work fine either way.
