lense for canon SLR

i live in Malaysia,i own a canon rebel G, the original lense had grow some kind of fungus inside it. I couldn't find any shop that provide services to repair it and my friend(loves photography too) advised me too get a new lens. is there anything else I could do before I jump to this solution? and i'm kind of have my eyes on a canon lens 'EF 28-105mm usm f/3.5-4.5' is it suitable for my camera? this lens is kind of hard to find.

Fungus likes damp and dark. To stop the growth already there, try putting the lens out in full sunlight. Let the sun shine through the lens, but don't leave it unattended so that you don't risk a fire. Store the camera/lens in a camera bag or similar with silica gel packs to remove moisture from the surrounding air.

All EF lenses will work on all EOS cameras. I have the EF 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 USM and consider it a particularly nice and not too expensive upgrade from the kit zoom.
