Photography Question

Michael Marriello

Minolta SRT-101

I won this camera on ebay for $36.54 (body only) and it's been giving me trouble (either the shutter sticks of the mirror does, because I've been getting very light frames).
And when I press the shutter release, it only goes "click Grrr", instead of the double "click click".

However, it only does this in the heat of battle when I'm shooting, BUT, it doesn't happen all the time !!

Am I making sense ?

Is it worth fixing or should I buy a Canon EOS Rebel Ti ?

I'm a very poor, starving, photo student trying to survive.

Thanks so much for listening and caring.

Sincerely,
Michael

I vote for taking it to a professional for CLA (clean, lube, adjust). Sounds like it might just have some sticky lubricant on the mirror mechanism. Should be able to find a shop that'll do it for far less than cost of new camera. If you didn't get the user manual with your camera, you can download it (free) from MinoltaUSA.com. Choose "Maxxum SRT 200 202" from the list. It's mislabeled, but that's the manual for the SRT 200/201/202.

D'oh, just sunk in that you have 101, not 201. Minolta doesn't list a download for it, but its controls are virtually identical to the 201, just no hot shoe for a flash, just a "cold shoe" mount and you connect the flash with a PC sync cord. I found more info here: http://home.pcisys.net/~rlsnpjs/minolta/srt.html, and http://www.photoethnography.com/ClassicCameras/index-frameset.html?MinoltaSRT101.html~mainFrame.
