Rebel 2000 shutter

I have a Rebel Eos 2000 with a 300mm lens and have been having trouble with some of my photos. What happens is that the top inch of the photos are coming out black, almost as if the shutter does not open all the way. These were all outdoor afternoon shots without a flash. Could this be something with the auto settings? It does not happen with all the frames and not all the time.

There's a rubber thing that acts as a shock absorber in there that when it gets old, starts to breakdown. It ends up getting sticky stuff on your shutter blades that will sometimes make it hang up. Happened to my RT. Sometimes had 12 in a row that were fine with 3 that had the dark edge. Other times had every other picture for about 8 in a row that did it.
Need to get the rubber thing replaced and the shutter blades cleaned. Didn't cost that much, didn't take that long. I don't remember the price. More was for labor than parts. But I have a certified Canon service place near by.
So if you have to take it to a place like Ritz/Wolf, it's going to take longer and probably cost more, because they'll send it to somebody anyway.
So if you don't have a canon place near by, you can do the packaging and shipping yourself or have a camera store do it.
