Still Life Ideas? I am a photography leader for our 4-H Club and I'm needing some ideas for things to set up for still life. . . I don't want them to have to go out and buy alot of stuff so was wanting to ask them to bring things that they might just have at home . . . last year I brought a bunch of Christmas type things and I have several backdrop things they can use but just need more specific ideas. Thanks!

Just have them bring things that are of interest to them. Like athletic shoes, soda bottles, pencils, crayons,I know, this all sounds weird, but taking still lifes can be boring at times. So, just make it fun and let them use their imagination! Another idea, get a mirror and place their still life on the mirror for some reflections.

Thanks for the suggestions . . . I've been trying to save STRANGE things the last year or so thinking we never know when it might come in handy . . . it is fun to see how their creativity can work.

I agree with Rhonda. I'd try to make it as interesting as possible. Have them think of unusual combinations of things sitting around their house. Have them think of things they use each day that have special meaning to them. Case in point--I'm planning a still life of coffee beans and chocolate which if it goes well I'll title "Essentials". These two items have meaning to me and go together so well. Having a specific goal with the still that ties it to the student might make it a little more intriguing--you know what I mean? Karma

Hi Michelle! I would encourage the students to incorporate their 4-H projects into a still life setting!! It would give them a reminder of something they participated in while in school!!!
