April Countdown Thread

Welcome to the April Countdown Thread:
I was very impressed with all of your posts in the last month countdown thread and am anxious to see what everyone has been working on and posted for the month of April.

*If you are a regular here you know what to do.

**If you are new to this thread, take some time to read our helpful hints below and join in the fun.

*** If you found yourself here because you are lost.... Hmmm.., Don't worry, this is not the Hotel California, you can escape!

Some helpful hints for attaching photos into a BP Forum Thread, if you're unfamiliar with the process:
1) Sign into BP. IF YOU HAVEN'T entered the Contest for today, you can use the "Photo ID" method to pull an existing image (from your Member Center) into your reply here.
a. Jot down the PhotoID # of the photo you wish to share. To determine your PhotoID, go to the little Pancakes icon, then click “My Photos”, then “Manage/Enter.” The PhotoID is right below the number.
b. Go to the Countdown Contest thread. Click “Respond” at the bottom of the page.
c. Type in whatever you wish; e.g., “Here’s my Fav image for the month.”

d. Click the “Select” button below the text input box, and select “1.” Toggle on “Notify” box if you wish to be notified. Click “Submit.”

e. The Image Uploader appears. On the right-hand side, you’ll see an input box for the PhotoID (from step 1a). Type it in then click “submit your photo.” Then, return to the forum thread and you’ll see your photo.

2) IF YOU HAVE ALREADY entered the Contest for today, you can't use the Photo ID method *today*. Either wait until tomorrow to reply here first, or upload a copy of the image (from your PC) and attach to this thread. This produces a duplicate image in your Member Center; however, you don't have to make that duplicate visible in your Gallery.

3) If you're uploading a duplicate, I suggest titling it "For Forum" so it stands out in your Member Center, for easier housecleaning later on. This can also help nudge BP viewers to go find the original image in your gallery, if they want to leave a comment. Likewise, if you want to add a comment to a photo seen here, first try to tell if it is a duplicate upload. As a courtesy, try to find the original image in the member's gallery and leave your comment there instead of on the duplicate... which may one day be deleted.

Errick

I was reminiscing over my 2012 trip to Iceland (where my sister opted to get married) and after sifting through my image archive from the trip, decided I'd work up an edit of this image (which I shot as we all returned from the ceremony on the beach to the hotel.) It was a gorgeous evening, and everyone was so happy and excited, and I just loved her smile!

As I almost never, ever photograph people, I will boldly choose this picture of my sister on her wedding day in Iceland, as my April favorite... best of luck, everyone!

I am choosing this one for April because it was so much fun to take and create. The background with blur on the trees was achieved not through camera movement or digital blur but by smearing Vaseline horizontally on the lens. I took the photo at sunset and the colors were already nice, but I decided to help them along with a color gradient. Finally, I added some Canada geese on their way back from the fields to the lake for the night.

I should have said filter, Bob. I'd read about smearing it on the lens but didn't dare so I put an inexpensive UV filter on and smeared it on that. It washed just fine. Probably not good for it, but I put it in the dishwasher :)

I meet up with my brother, also a BP'er, to photograph the Sandhill cranes. After the morning rising of the cranes after their nightly sandbar roosting, we headed out into the countryside for additional photo ops. This is from a ghost town we ran across in Kansas, 4/1/2016. More photos or this location are in my gallery.

Ken, "Days End" would be perfect for a travel brochure. Like Nikki, both pre and post exposure creativity. The color alterations worked out well.

I'm going to follow Christopher, and boldly choose my favorite from something I almost never do - street photography with people. I snapped this one just as the little girl peeked around Mom and made eye contact with me. I absolutely love her sweet face, and it makes this photo. If she hadn't looked my way, the photo would have gone into the recycle bin.

I love street photography - I just don't have the nerve it takes to do it.

A wonderful candid capture Pat. Your timing was right on. I too am uncomfortable with street photography though I like viewing others images. It is so easy for the photographers intention to get misinterpreted.

I guess if I had to pick one it would be this photo because it turned out exactly the way I wanted it to. I wanted to show how long it took by allowing the minute hand to actually move during the shot. I had to use several nd filters to achieve a slow enough shutter speed.

Reflective Perspective
Reflective Perspective

Looking up at LyondellBasell Tower (formerly known as One Houston Center) in downtown Houston, Texas. The tower is only 46 stories tall, but from this perspective, it looks like it goes on for miles. Mother nature provided a nice blue sky and clouds to reflect.

Many CONGRATZ to all the Gold Winners and Finalists and SFs and players.

Its not often (almost never) that I manage to pick a Winner in this thread, but I was pleasantly surprised to know that this month was different, which makes it extra special for me. Same goes for Ken too, who picked a Golden image.

Usman.
