Hummingbird in flight

Hummingbird in flight
1/400 shutter speed and 2.8 aperture. I am really trying to work on my technique on these hummingbirds. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have constant subjects to take pictures of. Dozens of birds swarm these feeders daily.

These little guys are tough to shoot. At least you you have a feeder so you can setup in advance. I photograph them in the wild and I have to be fast to follow them.
Your photo is easy to fix though. If you are going to use the feeder, get setup in advance becayse you know where the bird is going to be right. What I mean is compose the scene the way you want with maybe a little less feeder. If you have to have the feeder, squar it up a bit in the frame. You may want to try a different angle the light over the roof is a little distracting. If you must use this angle than you might want to wait until he feeds. This will give you a darker background behind the bird and it will stand out more. I don't know what equipment you used so I won't discuss metering. Do slow your shutter down just a tad though. You were just a bit overexposed.
With the feeder you can afford to be patient and wait for just the right shot. Happy shooting.
