Illegal Pruning
In San Francisco, the street trees belong to the adjacent property owner, but the city regulates their maintenance. This is an example of illegal pruning called "topping". While it doesn't kill the tree, the damage is significant. The person who did this is appealing the fine imposed by the city. The hearing scheduled for this matter yesterday had to be postponed due to a power outage at City Hall.Looking now at this photo taken in August, I'm gratified to note that the tree has regrown significantly! However it will need careful pruning to regain health and stability. The delicate white flower of this tree was the subject of yesterday's image.
