This is for Dale's challenge. This is the original, taken on the Railroad Grade, Blackwater Canyon early morning in May! I did an edit and added some more fog in Color Effex Pro 4, I think I like it better.

Beth, the top photo takes my breath away. I can hear the birds, feel the stillness in the air, smell the dampness of the earth and I marvel at the beauty of it all. Wonderful capture!

I'm going to agree with Kristin. Both are very nice, but the original is more natural.

I like the increased impact of the fog in the edited version, but it feels like a film over it rather than just enhanced atmospherics. You might be able to improve the edit with a layer mask to mask out the effect at the bottom, the nearer foliage on the right and the closest tree trunks with gradual masking as you move up from the bottom quarter to the middle of the frame as the foliage recedes in the distance.

Very nice work.

Just a beautiful capture of light in this image. I'm with the others that I like the original best although the fog one does add a different feel to it. I think if you took Stephens suggestions you could make the fog look more natural. :~)

Beautiful, I'd love to sit there and just listen. :)

I also like the original better. I like the idea of the fog, but I also thought it looked more like a film over the scene than fog. I would like to see what Stephen's suggestions on the fog would do.

Both are beautiful Beth, but I go with the original for the reasons stated by Stephen. I think his suggestions would enhance it a lot.

The original is a perfect example of an image that would benefit from selective dodging and burning to bring out the sunlight. Such as illustrated in my blog "Change sky without using selections".

You can find it on my blog site by clicking on the link to my tutorial blog.

You've captured a wonderful scene with lovely light Beth that anyone would be proud of.

beth this is beautiful captured. I love the original the best out of the two. I think its needs to be warm up a little. as for your second post with added fog, it looks great but again I think you should warm it up also.

Me, too...Beth! The first one does it for me. Even though I do like extra fog in the second one. I am not quite sold on adding more warmth. I think the cool of the forest and the fog as the center would suffer a mood change with added warmth. But I could be wrong.

Thanks for all the comments everyone!! I am back from vacation, what a wonderful time, just way too short. I have so many pictures to look at and try and do something with, but that will come with time. I am going to try and catch up on commenting tonight and hopefully move on from there and hopefully give the suggestions some tries.
I missed everyone!
